Previously, I’ve briefly mentioned that Hijama Therapy – wet cupping is a technique used to quicken the blood in cases of excess conditions. But what exactly are these excess conditions?
Put simply, excess conditions refer to anything that the body doesn’t need, such as a surplus or repletion of blood, body fluids and body tissue. Wet cupping can help with excess conditions caused by stasis and heat. Stasis occurs when blood flow slows down (stagnates), leading to poor circulation and potentially causing various symptoms such as dry skin, dusky looking skin, purple lips, clots, purple nails, swollen sublingual veins, poor healing wounds, and pain that doesn’t go away.
So, what are the major factors that cause stasis in the body?
Firstly, excessive heat conditions such as prolonged high fevers, overconsumption of heating foods like spicy foods or dark meats with higher fat content.
Secondly, exposure to the cold, including overconsumption of cold foods or drinks, or being exposed to cold environments such as cold weather or swimming in cold water or sitting on cold surfaces.
Thirdly, a sedentary lifestyle can lead to poor circulation, such as sitting for prolonged periods or lack of movement or exercise. When the flow is slow, more stagnations occur, leading to blood stasis.
Lastly, consuming processed foods that are nutritionally poor but rich in oxidative byproducts, as well as exposure to chemicals, can also contribute to stasis.
Wet cupping is just one option to help resolve stasis in the body, but it can be a highly effective one. By using suction cups to create a vacuum on specific points / zones of the body, wet cupping draws out stagnant blood and other fluids from the body, promoting healthy circulation and reducing symptoms of stasis.
